To covertly watch animals targeted by poachers, this team of scientists wants to send in the drones.
Lee Vella’s insight:
By deploying drones with infrared cameras, conservationists are able to monitor endangered species at night, without disturbing them. This will help protect endangered species from poachers. For example, in South Africa they used infrared cameras to monitor endangered riverine rabbits. Flying the drone they were able to 5 rabbits on camera, when only 1,000 have ever been spotted ever.
