Surf lifesaving drone-maker plans long-haul, autonomous UAV

The company behind the surf rescue and shark spotting drones that currently patrol beaches across Australia has begun testing a new UAV that will fly remotely along Australia’s coastline with “unprecedented range”.

Alissa Goldberg’s insight:
This is an update on a post I made earlier. This technology was implemented on an as-needed basis and many people worried that it would invade their privacy. Now that it is a continuous drone flying 4 hours at a time, more people will be concerned. But then it becomes an ethical question of privacy vs. saving lives and preventing shark attacks. I think it is critical to keeping the beaches safer and preventing deaths.
